BREAKING: ISWAP Fighter’s Wife, Infant Escape Terrorist Camp, Surrender To Troops In Borno
According to a report by DAILY POST on Sunday 28th June 2026, a woman believed to be the wife of an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighter has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, bringing along her two-month-old baby.
The surrender reportedly took place at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area, where soldiers of the 19 Brigade received the woman, identified as Falmata Bakwai, at about 10:15 a.m. on June 26.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development in a post on X, said the woman managed to flee the ISWAP enclave in Dogon Chuku while her husband and other fighters were away from the camp. During preliminary interrogation, Bakwai reportedly told security personnel that the worsening conditions inside the enclave, including severe food shortages and lack of basic necessities, prompted her decision to escape with her infant.
She also revealed that the difficult situation within the camp had been worsened by sustained military offensives and airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts across the North-East.
According to the report, the woman and her baby have been placed in quarantine and are receiving medical attention in line with operational guidelines.
Military authorities are continuing to debrief her, while plans are underway to transfer her to the Headquarters of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai/Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), for further investigation and profiling.
