Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has restated his belief that he won Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, insisting that the outcome announced by the system did not reflect the true will of the electorate.

Obi made the comments during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he revisited the controversial election and reiterated his long-standing position that the results did not align with what he believes was the actual outcome of the poll.

According to him, while official institution declared a winner, he remains convinced that he secured victory at the ballot but was ultimately denied the mandate through what he described as institutional and systemic processes.

His remarks have once again drawn attention to the 2023 presidential election, which continues to generate debate across Nigeria’s political space more than a year after it was concluded.

In his words: “I ran election for office of President of Nigeria and won, but the system decided otherwise.”

Obi used the statement to emphasize his ongoing concerns about the credibility of the electoral process and to question the integrity of the mechanisms used in the conduct and collation of results.

Since the election, Obi has consistently raised issues regarding transparency, the effectiveness of electoral technology, and the overall management of results by relevant authorities.

He has also called for wide-ranging reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions, arguing that public trust in elections must be restored through more transparent and accountable systems.

The former Anambra State governor has maintained that credible elections are fundamental to democracy and that any perceived shortcomings in the process must be addressed to prevent future disputes.
