BREAKING: Political Tension in ADC as Kachikwu Celebrates Court Win Over ‘Back Door’ Faction
According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, A Federal High Court ruling has intensified leadership tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu and state party chairmen welcomed the judgment nullifying congresses conducted by a faction within the party.
The ruling, delivered in Abuja, invalidated congresses and a convention organised by a group linked to former Senate President David Mark. The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or engaging with any congresses carried out by the disputed caretaker leadership. It further affirmed that only constitutionally recognised party structures have the authority to conduct valid congresses.
Reacting to the decision, Kachikwu described the judgment as a long-awaited correction in the party’s internal crisis. He said he had consistently warned against attempts to destabilise the party.
“I had long warned that the ADC is not for sale and that those attempting to hijack it would be shown the way out through the same back door they came in,” he stated.
He further noted that the ruling confirmed the failure of what he described as desperate efforts to take over the party, adding that those involved would not succeed in their political plans. Kachikwu also urged members to remain vigilant, insisting that the ADC would still be fully active in the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman of the ADC State Chairmen Forum, Kingsley Oggah, also described the judgment as a relief for loyal members. He said the decision had helped clarify the party’s leadership direction.
“We see this judgment as a blessing because it resolves issues we have long battled with,” Oggah said.
He warned against internal divisions, stating that selfish interests must not be allowed to weaken the party ahead of future elections.
