According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to select former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eze argued that Amaechi’s extensive political experience, organisational strength, and past involvement in major electoral victories make him a valuable asset for the vice-presidential position.
He referenced Amaechi’s role in helping coordinate the successful campaign that unseated former President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that such strategic capacity demonstrates his relevance in national politics.
According to him, Amaechi’s political structure, influence across regions, and established support base further strengthen his suitability for the role.
He warned that sidelining Amaechi could have negative implications for the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects, stressing that some supporters within the ADC may feel alienated if the recommendation is ignored.
In the same statement issued on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Eze commended Atiku for efforts to unify the party after the presidential primary.
He highlighted Atiku’s outreach to former rivals such as Amaechi and Alhaji Hayatu-Deen as evidence of inclusive leadership.
He added that Atiku’s emergence as the party flagbearer reflects his long-standing commitment to democratic governance and national development, expressing confidence that his experience could help guide Nigeria toward stability and progress.
Eze further maintained that Amaechi’s inclusion would strengthen internal cohesion and broaden the party’s appeal nationwide, given his experience in governance and political mobilisation.
He suggested that pairing Atiku with a figure of Amaechi’s stature could enhance the ticket’s competitiveness and improve chances in a tightly contested election.
He reiterated that political alliances and strategic choices would be crucial in determining success in 2027, urging careful consideration of candidates capable of delivering electoral value.
