According to Punch newspapers, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo died at the age of 40 after a prolonged battle with cancer, casting a shadow of grief over Nigeria’s entertainment industry on Tuesday.
His death was confirmed by fellow actors Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe, who broke the news on social media to a stunned fanbase. Nnadiekwe, in a particularly moving tribute on Instagram, described the loss as devastating and revealed that Ekubo had made preparations for his passing.
“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul,” Nnadiekwe wrote, adding: “To think you already prepared your will it’s a heartbreak I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”
Reports indicate that Ekubo was rushed to the hospital on Monday, where he spent hours on life support before succumbing to complications from the illness on Tuesday afternoon. Family sources said he had been battling kidney cancer.
Ekubo had been conspicuously absent from public life and social media for months, with his last known post dating to December 30, 2024, a prolonged silence that had fuelled concern among fans and colleagues long before Tuesday’s announcement.
Known for his striking looks and versatile screen presence, Ekubo built a celebrated career across Nollywood films and brand endorsements, earning a devoted following across Nigeria and the diaspora.
The Nigerian entertainment industry has yet to issue a formal collective tribute, though individual expressions of grief from actors, filmmakers, and fans continued to pour in across social media platforms throughout Tuesday. He is survived by family members.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
