Human rights activist and former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed sorrow over reports surrounding the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, describing him as an exceptional performer whose talent stood out on screen.

According to a report by PUNCH Newspaper published on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the actor reportedly died at the age of 40 after battling cancer for an extended period.

Reacting through a post on social media, Sowore conveyed his condolences to the late actor’s loved ones and admirers, noting that the news of his passing was deeply painful. He stated that although he never met Ekubo personally, the actor’s performances made a strong impression on him.

Sowore recalled watching one of Ekubo’s movies during an Emirates flight from New York to Dubai while traveling to Nairobi, saying the actor’s charisma and delivery made the film unforgettable.

In his tribute, the activist praised the late actor for his remarkable screen presence and effortless ability to connect with viewers through his roles. He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Ekubo’s soul, ending his message with the words, “May he rest in power.”
