According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has made remarks concerning the political direction of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He outlined what he described as a possible approach that could alter the dynamics of the race against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His comments focused on the structure and coordination of opposition parties and how their current configuration may influence electoral outcomes.

Jibrin stated that a united opposition bloc would have the capacity to significantly increase political pressure on both President Tinubu and the APC.

He explained that if opposition parties were able to consolidate their strengths under a single platform, it could create a more competitive environment in the build-up to the 2027 elections.

According to his position, such unity would have a stronger impact than the current fragmented arrangement of parties.

The former lawmaker made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.

The discussion centred on the state of party politics in Nigeria, particularly the strategies and prospects of opposition groups as the country moves closer to the next presidential election cycle.

His comments were delivered within the broader context of evaluating electoral preparedness and party alignment.

He further maintained that despite the potential strength of a consolidated opposition, President Tinubu would still emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

In his view, the political advantage currently held by the president and the ruling party would remain a decisive factor in determining the outcome of the election, regardless of opposition arrangements.

Jibrin also noted that fragmentation within opposition ranks has a direct effect on electoral performance, particularly in terms of vote distribution.

He explained that when opposition parties contest separately, their support base becomes divided across multiple candidates, which reduces the overall electoral strength of any single contender.

He contrasted this with the relative stability of votes expected for the incumbent.

He added that continued division among opposition parties could further influence the balance of political support in the upcoming election cycle.

According to him, such a situation would leave the opposition in a weaker position compared to a scenario where their votes are concentrated behind one candidate.

He also stated that the existing support base of the president remains unaffected by the opposition’s internal divisions.

“The more they divide themselves the more they split their votes but the vote of the president continues to remain intact, none of them is taking anything from the vote the president is going to get.

“Even if they come all together, the president would still defeat them,” he added.
