According to a report by Manchesterevening News on Tuesday June 2, 2026, Manchester United are edging closer to signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but the Brazilian may not be the only midfield arrival at Old Trafford this summer. The club are also preparing to complete the signing of highly-rated Colombian teenager Cristian Orozco.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that a move for Ederson is expected to be finalised unless there is a dramatic change. Personal terms have already been agreed, with United hoping to secure the midfielder for less than £40 million.
The Red Devils are planning a significant midfield overhaul ahead of the new season. Casemiro is set to leave the club, while Manuel Ugarte could also depart if United receive a suitable offer during the transfer window.
Should both exits be confirmed, Ederson could become one of several midfield additions as United look to strengthen both their senior squad and future prospects. The club have increasingly focused on recruiting talented young players with high potential.
According to reports, United will officially complete the signing of 17-year-old Orozco in July. A preliminary agreement with Colombian side Fortaleza CEIF was reached last year, but the youngster had to wait until turning 18 before making the move.
Orozco remained with Fortaleza during the 2025-26 season, gaining valuable first-team experience. He featured in several matchday squads and made four senior appearances, showing enough promise to convince United of his long-term potential.
The teenager has already been compared to former United midfielder Casemiro because of his defensive qualities, leadership and ability to progress play from deep areas. Scouts believe he possesses maturity beyond his years.
United previously invited Orozco to visit Carrington and Old Trafford, highlighting how highly he is regarded within the club. His arrival is viewed as a low-risk investment with considerable upside.
Alongside Ederson and Orozco, United continue to monitor other midfield targets as Michael Carrick looks to build a squad capable of challenging domestically and in the Champions League next season.
