BREAKING: Barcelona Submit Opening Offer For Julian Alvarez
According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday May 29, 2026, Barcelona have reportedly submitted an opening €100 million bid to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Argentine forward has emerged as the club’s main attacking target this summer.
Alvarez has been strongly linked with a move to Camp Nou for months and is now said to have informed Atletico Madrid of his desire to join Barcelona permanently ahead of next season.
The striker enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 49 appearances. Barcelona view him as the ideal long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who departs this summer.
Barcelona were recently connected with Chelsea attacker Joao Pedro, but Xabi Alonso’s team are unwilling to approve a transfer. As a result, the Catalan giants have intensified their pursuit of Alvarez instead.

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is also expected to join Barcelona after the club reportedly agreed an €80m transfer. His arrival would add more competition across the attacking positions at Camp Nou.
Because of these developments, a permanent move for Marcus Rashford now appears unlikely. The England forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona but may not remain beyond the summer window.
