According to a report by Al Jazeera, on Wednesday June 3, 2026, Hezbollah fighters launched a direct artillery assault on Israeli military personnel stationed near the southern Lebanese town of Odaisseh on Wednesday, marking another flashpoint in the fragile ceasefire along the border.
The Lebanese militant group confirmed the strike in an official statement released through its Telegram channel, revealing that its fighters opened fire on Israeli troops positioned at Jall al-Hammar, within the Odaisseh area.
According to the statement, artillery shells were deployed in the operation, targeting what Hezbollah described as a gathering of Israeli soldiers at the site.
The group framed the assault as a defensive measure, stating it was carried out “in defense of Lebanon and its people.”
Hezbollah further justified the attack as a direct response to what it characterized as ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement currently in place between the two sides.
The group did not provide casualty figures or additional details regarding the scale of the assault.
The United States has launched its latest diplomatic push to end the escalating conflict in Lebanon, bringing together Israeli and Lebanese representatives for a critical round of talks in Washington.
Representatives from Lebanon and Israel met at the US Department of State in Washington, DC, for the first session of a two-day round of negotiations that Lebanese negotiators hope will bring an end to Israel’s ongoing invasion of their country.
Ahead of the State Department talks, Israeli and Lebanese military officers had already met at the Pentagon to discuss a possible ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the disarming of Hezbollah, and the deployment of the Lebanese armed forces in southern Lebanon.
