Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that their missile and drone attacks targeting US military positions in Kuwait were launched in direct retaliation for an American strike near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and on the southern Iranian island of Qeshm.
According to a report made by Anadolu English on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in a statement, detailed a sequence of events beginning with damage to an Iranian oil tanker, followed by a US strike on one of the Guard’s communications towers, highlighting that the aerospace branch of the Revolutionary Guard then responded with force, targeting US facilities, including assets linked to the US Fifth Fleet in a legitimate act of self-defense.
They also issued a stark warning that any further attack on Iran would be met with a decisive response, and those involved in actions against the Islamic Republic would face consequences.
The IRGC also added that an Iranian oil tanker operating near the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an aerial projectile late Tuesday, sustaining damage to its engine section, further stressing that shortly thereafter US forces targeted a communications tower belonging to the Guard located south of Qeshm Island.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB had earlier reported several explosions in the Suza, and Masen areas of Qeshm, corroborating the Guard’s claim of American military action.
It was gathered that following the incident the IRGC’s Aerospace Force then launched their own salvo, including both missiles and drones, aimed at US military positions in the region, specifically facilities tied to the Fifth Fleet, which is headquartered in Bahrain, but operates extensively throughout Gulf waters.
The attacks on US bases in Kuwait, which CENTCOM previously acknowledged intercepting or seeing fall short of their targets, were thus framed by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei as a measured, and proportional response to American aggression on Iranian soil.
