American President Donald Trump announced that he is considering a revived and significantly expanded Project Freedom military operation in the Strait of Hormuz, even as ceasefire talks with Iran teeter on the brink of collapse.
According to a report made by Anadolu English on Monday, 11 May 2026, the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump while speaking to Fox News, said that escorting ships through the strategic waterway would be only a fraction of what he has in mind, saying “Guiding ships through the Strait of Hormuz would be just one small piece of a larger military operation,” suggesting that the new iteration of Project Freedom would go well beyond its previous scope.
He also expressed confidence that Iran’s leadership would ultimately relent under pressure, saying “They’re going to fold.”
When President Donald Trump was asked whether he could work with the current hardline government of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, he replied: “I will deal with them until they make a deal.”
President Donald Trump went further to made striking claims about Iran’s destroyed nuclear facilities, asserting that Iranian negotiators had privately told the US that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei lacks the technology to clean up radioactive material at sites hit by American and Israeli strikes in June 2025.
He also said that Iran had suggested that the US would need to retrieve nuclear dust from the obliterated locations.
Trump also said “They told me they can’t do it. Only we can.”
