According to Al Jazeera, United States President Donald Trump has renewed his threats against Iran as negotiations aimed at ending months of conflict between the two countries remain stalled.

In a post shared Sunday on his Truth Social platform, Trump warned that Iran was running out of time to reach an agreement with Washington. “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them,” Trump wrote. “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”

The remarks come as tensions continue to simmer following the outbreak of war on February 28, when Israel and the United States jointly launched attacks on Iran. Since then, the Trump administration has pushed several demands, including the dismantling of Iran’s missile programme, an end to its nuclear enrichment activities, and the severing of Tehran’s ties with regional allies.

Trump’s latest statement is the newest example of his increasingly forceful rhetoric as diplomatic efforts struggle to produce a breakthrough. A day earlier, the US president posted an AI-generated image of himself standing atop a military ship with the caption, “It was the calm before the storm.”

The comments have sparked criticism from observers and legal experts who argue that some of Trump’s previous statements could be interpreted as threats against civilians and civilian infrastructure.

On April 7, Trump had issued another controversial warning directed at Iran. “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he wrote in a social media post that critics compared to genocidal rhetoric.

Within hours of that message, however, the United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire arrangement that has largely held despite repeated accusations of violations from both sides.

Trump has also previously suggested targeting Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power facilities, comments that international legal analysts warned could violate the Geneva Convention if acted upon.

The ongoing conflict has raised fears of wider instability across the Middle East, with concerns growing over the impact on shipping routes, regional security, and energy supplies. Meanwhile, talks between Washington and Tehran continue without any major signs of progress, even as pressure mounts on both sides to prevent a further escalation of the war.
