BREAKING: “Nobody Expected A Big Deal Between Iran And The US After 40 days Of Devastating War,”-Mousavian
According to Al Jazeera Tv, former Iranian nuclear negotiator Seyed Hossein Mounssvian has suggested that diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States are quietly advancing, pointing to high-level talks he says are taking place in Islamabad and could help resolve key security disputes.
Speaking in an interview, Mounssvian said recent developments reflect unexpected progress following a period of heightened tensions. “That’s why I think the channel for diplomacy now is already opened in Islamabad at a very high level,” he said, indicating that backchannel negotiations may be underway despite ongoing geopolitical strain.
He noted that the scale and speed of engagement surprised observers given recent conflict conditions. “Nobody expected a big deal between Iran and the US after 40 days of devastating war,” he said, referring to what he described as a period of intense confrontation.
According to Mounssvian, direct diplomatic contact has already taken place. “Nevertheless, there were high-level negotiations, direct negotiations,” he stated, adding that discussions reportedly occurred over a short but intensive timeframe. “In 24 hours they negotiated,” he said, suggesting rapid progress in preliminary talks.
He further expressed cautious optimism that remaining disputes could still be resolved through continued dialogue. “I think they can continue to resolve the two remaining issues, which are the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear enrichment,” he said, identifying maritime security and Iran’s nuclear program as the central unresolved challenges.
Despite the complexity of these issues, Mounssvian said he believes compromise remains possible. “I believe there is a solution for both,” he added, emphasizing diplomacy over escalation.
The remarks come amid ongoing international concern over stability in the Gulf region, particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint, and long-standing disputes over Iran’s nuclear activities. Islamabad has occasionally been referenced in diplomatic contexts as a potential neutral venue for indirect negotiations.
