House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Emeka Ike, has explained why he decided to contest for a federal legislative seat in Abuja rather than seek elective office in his home state.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday June 2nd, 2026, the Nollywood actor said his decision followed persistent appeals from residents and political stakeholders in the Federal Capital Territory who urged him to represent them.

According to Ike, his initial plan was to pursue his political ambition in his home state. However, he said a series of consultations and requests from people in Abuja eventually convinced him to redirect his focus to the federal constituency.

“I actually wanted to run in my home state, but a couple of people came to me. It was like a clarion call. They told me, ‘Sir, you need to do this now; we need you in Abuja,’” he said.

The actor-turned-politician explained that he initially resisted the idea because he had already mapped out plans for a political career in his state of origin. He noted, however, that the pressure and encouragement from those who approached him prompted him to reconsider his position.

Ike said he carefully examined the concerns raised by the group and concluded that there was a need for stronger representation and development within the constituency.

According to him, the issues brought before him convinced him that he could make a meaningful contribution to the growth of the area if given the opportunity to serve.

The NDC aspirant added that his decision was ultimately driven by what he described as a call to service rather than personal ambition, stressing that the constituency required greater attention and effective representation.
