Mrs. Ogidi, the mother of Mene Ogidi, has shared a painful account of how her family has repeatedly suffered from police violence. Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, she explained that the recent killing of her son is not the first tragedy her family has faced.

She recalled how, years earlier, her younger son, Ogenerume, was also a victim of a similar incident. According to her, although he was not involved in crime, he was known to be stubborn and often stayed out with friends without informing the family.

One day, the family received news that he had been shot in the leg. Despite efforts to find out who was responsible, no clear answers were given. He was taken for treatment, and after some time, Mrs. Ogidi moved him to stay with her younger sister so he could recover properly.

While staying there, he reportedly stepped out one evening to charge his phone. Later that night, he was taken away by police officers to Asaba. He tried to contact his mother but was denied the chance. By the next morning, the family was informed that he had been killed.

Mrs. Ogidi said her son was only 18 years old at the time. She expressed deep pain that years later, another son, Mene, was also killed at the age of 28, leaving her family devastated by repeated loss.

In her words, “Rume, though he wasn’t a thief, but he was stubborn. He used to follow his friends about. One day we heard that he had been shot in the leg.”
