According to a report by Channels TV, on Sunday May 24, 2026, Popular political activist and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial aspirant, Aisha Yesufu, has revealed that a primary motivation behind her bid for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in 2027 is to structurally lock down the nation’s capital for the opposition ahead of the general elections.

Mrs. Yesufu explained that her legislative ambition transcends personal political careerism. Instead, she described her candidacy as a deliberate tactical move to galvanize grassroots support and secure a definitive opposition stronghold in Abuja.

According to the activist-turned-politician, Abuja residents are eager for real representation, and her goal is to provide a credible, inspiring alternative that can effectively mobilize voters and reignite genuine political enthusiasm across the territory.

Yesufu, who is eyeing the ticket under the umbrella of the NDC, emphasized that the opposition requires a magnetic candidate capable of connecting deeply with the diverse demographic of the FCT to drive voter turnout.

“But most importantly, part of the reason I am running for the senatorial seat is also to ensure that we are locking down Abuja that we have a candidate who can resonate with and inspire passion among the people, a candidate that the Abuja residents will see and feel proud of, and will want to come out for,” Yesufu stated.

She further stressed the urgent need to give FCT voters an option they could easily identify with, trust, and passionately support on election day, rather than relying on standard political status-quo options.
