Political Bombshell: PDP Governor Plans Party Defection Thursday
According to a report by TheCable on Tuesday 1st March 2026, Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, and his supporters are expected to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday, March 31, 2026; The governor revealed his intention during a meeting with ADC leaders, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Bauchi Government House.
The defection follows ongoing leadership challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which escalated after a factional convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025; Governor Mohammed said reconciliation efforts within the PDP had failed, leaving him and his supporters politically stranded.
He explained that while all options, including joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), were considered, the ADC appeared to offer the most acceptable platform; He added that consultations with the party and stakeholders are ongoing and that a final decision would be communicated by Thursday.
Mohammed emphasized that the process would be inclusive, engaging party members at both state and national levels, and that political strength ultimately rests with voters, not party structures; He said the ADC’s outreach came at a critical time and provided an opportunity for his group to remain active in opposition politics.
