According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday June 2, 2026, Real Madrid are reportedly just one step away from securing their first signing of the summer, with an initial agreement already reached for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.

The Spanish giants had recently stepped up their pursuit of Konaté, who is set to become a free agent this summer. His experience at the highest level and defensive qualities make him an attractive option as Madrid look to reinforce their backline.

Following renewed contact with his representatives, Real Madrid reportedly submitted a four-year contract offer, with an additional optional year tied to performance-related conditions as negotiations progressed.

According to Abdellah Boulma, both Real Madrid and Konaté have now reached a preliminary agreement, with all parties showing willingness to move forward and finalise the deal in the near future.

Further reports from Onze Mondial suggest the transfer is now in its final stages, with an official announcement potentially imminent as talks near completion between the club and player.

Because Konaté’s Liverpool contract expires this summer, Real Madrid would not need to pay a transfer fee. However, discussions may still include a significant signing-on bonus as part of the free-agent move.

Konaté played regularly for Liverpool last season, making 36 league starts and averaging 86 minutes per match, highlighting his importance within the squad throughout the campaign.

However, despite his consistent involvement, his performances were mixed at times due to a demanding schedule and personal challenges, including the loss of his father and teammate Diogo Jota during a difficult season.
