According to a report by The Nation Nigeria on Sunday, May 24, the tragic death of prominent businessman Chief Godwin Adimike, widely known as Egonaejeije Na Awka-Etiti, has continued to generate shock and controversy, following reports that he was allegedly stabbed to death by his 21-year-old son, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Abuja.
Adimike, a respected figure in Nigeria’s electronics and import trade with strong business ties to Alaba International Market in Lagos, was reportedly killed on Friday, May 15, 2026, at his residence on Hassan Adamu Street, Guzape, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He was said to have built a vast business empire spanning electronics trading and real estate, with properties in Lagos and Abuja, and was widely regarded as one of the influential players in the country’s import sector.
According to accounts from a close associate who spoke anonymously, the incident occurred after a heated argument between the businessman and his son, who had recently returned from a nightclub. The son, who reportedly helps manage some of his father’s property interests in Abuja, allegedly confronted him over financial disagreements.
“He went to a club and returned home late. A confrontation started over money and alleged unfair treatment,” the associate said. “The argument escalated, and he allegedly stabbed his father three times.”
The associate further claimed that the disagreement centred on perceived financial favouritism and dissatisfaction expressed by the son over how funds were being managed within the family and business structure.
Following the incident, the suspect was taken into police custody in Abuja, while investigators also reportedly invited the deceased’s wife for questioning as part of ongoing inquiries.
When journalists visited the Guzape residence, security operatives were seen cordoning off the building as forensic teams continued their examination of the scene. The property, located in a residential estate, remained sealed off while investigations progressed.
Neighbours also recounted the disturbing moments following the incident. One resident, who requested anonymity, said the alarm was raised around 1 a.m. when the suspect reportedly contacted a neighbour to check on his father.
“My husband was called that he should come and see his father on the floor,” the neighbour said. “When he got there, he saw him lying there and immediately called the police.”
Another neighbour said the suspect had been with friends earlier in the night and returned home with two women before the incident allegedly occurred. Residents described the development as shocking and difficult to comprehend, noting that the family had lived quietly in the area.
The FCT Police Command has confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. Police spokesperson SP Josephine Ade said officers responded to a distress call and found the victim lying in a pool of blood inside his residence. He was rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
According to the police, several individuals, including relatives of the deceased, have been taken in for questioning as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing. The Commissioner of Police in the FCT has also ordered a discreet and thorough investigation.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as detectives continue to piece together evidence. Police officials say no final conclusions have been reached regarding the motive or exact sequence of events.
Meanwhile, the Adimike family has issued a statement urging restraint in public commentary, warning against what it described as misinformation and unverified claims circulating on social media. The family stressed that investigations were still ongoing and no official determination had been made regarding responsibility for the death.
“We appeal to the public and media organisations to avoid sensationalism and allow the police to conclude their investigation,” the statement read.
The family also called for privacy and prayers as they mourn the loss of the businessman, who was widely known for his philanthropy and support for community development in Awka-Etiti, Anambra State. He was particularly noted for charitable donations during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the distribution of food items and financial assistance to residents.

Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
