Speaking on the political developments that preceded the 2023 general election, Baba-Ahmed explained that his recommendation was motivated by a desire to strengthen opposition forces and create a more formidable political platform capable of challenging the status quo. He noted that, at the time, he believed greater cooperation among opposition leaders would enhance electoral competitiveness and contribute positively to national development.
Reflecting on that position, Baba-Ahmed remarked, “When I advised Obi to work with Kwankwaso, I did not fully understand their composition.” He made the statement while discussing the personalities, interests, and political dynamics that influenced relationships among prominent opposition figures.
According to him, events that unfolded after his initial recommendation provided deeper insight into the complexities involved in forming political alliances. He suggested that successful partnerships require more than a shared political objective, emphasizing the importance of trust, mutual understanding, and the ability to manage differences effectively.
The former senator further observed that democratic politics often involves intricate relationships among individuals, parties, and interest groups, making coalition-building a challenging process.
