Former Delta State legislator and prominent Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) figure, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has reaffirmed his support for the economic policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in remarks reported on June 3, 2027, Omo-Agege stated that his position on the President’s key reforms has remained consistent over time. He emphasized that he continues to back policies such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira.
His comments came shortly after his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NDC, a move that has generated debate about his political alignment and future ambitions.
Omo-Agege played a significant role in building the APC’s political presence in Delta State. However, following his loss to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa during the party’s senatorial primary election, he chose to leave the APC and align himself with the NDC.
Despite his endorsement of Tinubu’s economic reforms, the former lawmaker suggested that Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, possesses qualities that could enable him to deliver stronger results if given the opportunity to lead. According to Omo-Agege, Obi enjoys widespread grassroots support that could help drive the successful implementation of key government policies.
Reiterating his stance, Omo-Agege noted that he has not altered his views on the administration’s economic agenda.
“When the President introduced measures such as the naira floatation policy and the removal of fuel subsidies, I supported those decisions,” he said. “My position on those reforms has not changed.”
