BREAKING: US Names ISIS Money Movers in Nigeria, Others

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the United States government has announced sanctions against individuals and businesses accused of helping the Islamic State (ISIS) move funds across international borders as part of renewed efforts to disrupt terrorist financing networks.

The latest designations, announced on Monday, target three individuals and six companies allegedly involved in facilitating financial activities linked to ISIS operations across parts of Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa.

According to the US government, the action is aimed at weakening financial channels that allow ISIS and its affiliates to access funds, coordinate activities, and sustain operations in different regions.

Washington said the network under investigation stretches across countries including France, Syria, Türkiye, and Nigeria, adding that disrupting these financial connections would limit the group’s ability to support attacks and maintain its international structure.

Among those named is a Nigerian national accused of using currency exchange businesses as channels for moving funds linked to ISIS activities.

The US also listed a French national alleged to have provided technical information relating to explosives to ISIS supporters, as well as a Syrian national accused of using cryptocurrency transactions to transfer money on behalf of individuals connected to the extremist group.

The American government reaffirmed its cooperation with Nigeria in counterterrorism efforts, referencing the joint operation carried out on May 16, 2026, which it said resulted in the death of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described by Washington as a senior ISIS figure.

The US State Department said ISIS has increasingly relied on financial facilitators and intermediaries as international pressure continues to affect its traditional structures.

“We will continue to use every diplomatic and legal tool available to hold ISIS and its supporters accountable, wherever they operate and however they move money,” the department stated.

The sanctions were issued through the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which classified the individuals and organisations under the Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) category.

The Nigerian identified in the sanctions announcement is Muhammad Mukhtar Adamu, who the US linked to ISIS-West Africa. Authorities listed his date of birth as August 2, 1990, with an alternative date of August 3, 1990, and identified an address associated with him in Agege, Lagos State.

Three Nigerian businesses were also linked to Adamu in the announcement. They include General Currency Bureau De Change Limited, located in Lagos and registered on January 9, 2019, with registration number RC 1555604.

Other firms listed are Manhattan Bureau De Change, located along Murtala Mohammed Way in Kano and registered on January 26, 2021, with registration number RC 1763824; and Nine To Nine Exchange Bureau De Change, located at the FAAN Complex, Airport Road, Lagos, registered on August 22, 2017, with registration number RC 1462752.

The other two individuals named by the US are Abdelhakim Boukich, also known as Babili Muhammad, a Syrian national born in December 1993, and Abderrahmane Miloud, also known as Ghazi Ibrahim, a French national born in August 1992. Both were linked by Washington to ISIS.

The US government said the sanctions would block any assets connected to the listed individuals and entities under American jurisdiction and restrict them from accessing the US financial system.
