BREAKING: Russia Says US Weapons Stockpiles Considerably Depleted

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Russia has claimed that the United States’ decision to expand weapons production reflects a significant reduction in American military stockpiles due to recent conflicts and continued arms support for Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made the remarks on Tuesday during a press briefing in Moscow while responding to comments by US President Donald Trump that major American manufacturers, including automobile companies, could soon begin producing military equipment to strengthen the country’s defence supplies.

Peskov described the situation as expected, arguing that the increase in weapons production was a direct consequence of the heavy use of military resources in recent conflicts.

“There were military operations in the Persian Gulf during the aggression against Iran. In addition, the US continues to supply significant quantities of weapons to Ukraine. Naturally, stockpiles and warehouses have been considerably depleted and need replenishment,” Peskov said.

He added that the development showed that “militarization of the US economy is taking place,” suggesting that Washington’s increased focus on defence manufacturing was linked to growing military demands.

Trump had earlier announced that American companies such as Ford and General Motors, along with other manufacturers, could become involved in producing military equipment as part of efforts to rebuild and strengthen US military reserves.

The US president said the expanded production could include weapons systems such as interceptor missiles used by Patriot air defence systems and Tomahawk cruise missiles, which are among the advanced weapons used by the US military.

The possible involvement of major industrial companies in defence production represents an effort to increase manufacturing capacity and ensure that the US armed forces maintain sufficient supplies amid rising global security challenges.

Meanwhile, Peskov also addressed questions about the state of Russia’s economy, saying that Moscow continues to maintain economic stability despite uncertainty in global energy markets.

“There are currently no grounds for doubting the macroeconomic stability of our country,” he said, adding that economic issues had been repeatedly reviewed during meetings chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin spokesman acknowledged that fluctuations in international oil prices affect economies around the world, including Russia, which relies heavily on energy exports. However, he argued that the Russian economy remains capable of handling market pressures.

Peskov noted that while oil and gas income continues to play an important role in Russia’s national budget, the country has been increasing revenue from other sectors.

“Oil revenues remain a substantial contribution to the formation of our budget, but the share of non-oil-and-gas revenues is also increasing,” he said.
