According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, May 10, 2026, United States President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s latest response to a US-backed proposal aimed at ending ongoing hostilities, describing it as “totally unacceptable” in a strongly worded social media post.

Writing on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said he had reviewed Tehran’s reply and rejected its contents outright.

“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” he wrote.

His statement came just hours after Iranian state media reported that Tehran had formally submitted its response to the latest US proposal through Pakistani intermediaries. According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the communication was delivered via diplomatic channels involving Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator in indirect discussions.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB said Tehran’s response focused on conditions for ending hostilities across multiple fronts, including calls for a cessation of military actions linked to US and Israeli operations and assurances regarding maritime security in key international shipping routes.

The latest exchange comes against the backdrop of continued regional instability that has drawn in multiple actors across the Middle East. Despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon that took effect on April 17 and was later extended, reports indicate that military activity has not fully ceased, with ongoing strikes and retaliatory exchanges involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces.

Tensions in the wider region escalated significantly after coordinated US and Israeli military actions against Iran earlier this year. Those developments triggered a series of retaliatory responses from Tehran targeting Israeli positions and US-aligned interests in the Gulf, while also contributing to heightened insecurity in strategic maritime corridors.

A separate ceasefire arrangement, brokered with Pakistani involvement, reportedly came into effect on April 8, though negotiations in Islamabad failed to secure a long-term agreement. Despite this, diplomatic efforts continued, with the truce later extended by the US administration under President Trump without a fixed deadline, in an effort to create space for further talks.

Iranian officials have consistently maintained that any sustainable agreement must address broader regional security concerns, while also demanding an end to what it describes as external military pressure.
