According to a report by The Times Of Israel on May 24, 2026, Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, says that managing the Strait of Hormuz was Tehran’s “legal right” in order to ensure national security.
Iranian news agencies quote Rezaei as saying: “Iran’s management of Hormuz Strait ends 50 years of insecurity in the Persian Gulf,” He stated that Iran’s approach to the strategic waterway is aimed at strengthening security and stabilizing maritime activity in the region.
Rezaei emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz holds major strategic importance for Iran and the wider region, noting that a large share of global oil exports passes through the narrow passage. He argued that securing and regulating activity in the strait is necessary to protect national interests and prevent external threats.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, linking oil-producing nations in the Gulf with major international markets in Asia, Europe, and beyond. Any disruption in the area is widely viewed as having immediate consequences for global energy supplies and oil prices.
