Wike appoints Musa Idris as SSA on procurement
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has appointed Alhaji Onsachi Musa Idris as Senior Special Assistant on Procurement.
Idris retired from the civil service on April 24, 2026.
This is contained in a statement signed by G. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, and dated April 24, 2026.

Idris previously rose to the position of Director of Common Services (Procurement) in August 2019. He was later redeployed to the Department of Procurement in July 2021 as Director of FCT Procurement.

Over the years, he developed extensive experience across major administrative and procurement functions, contributing to improved efficiency and service delivery within the system.

2007: Ashiru joins Kwara guber race, unveils agenda
The Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Oyelola Ashiru, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Ashiru made the declaration on Thursday in Ilorin during the unveiling of his policy document titled “My Kwara Covenant: A Blueprint for Inclusive Governance, Shared Prosperity and Generational Renewal.”
He described his ambition as a mission to move the state from “potential to prosperity,” stressing that governance must deliver tangible impact on the lives of citizens.
“I am declaring my aspiration for Governor of Kwara State because I believe Kwara’s time has come—not as a slogan, but as a statement of fact,” he said.
“The foundation has been built, investments are flowing, and everything this state needs to make the leap from potential to prosperity is within reach. What is needed now is leadership that is prepared to deliver from day one.”
The lawmaker said his decision was informed by the everyday struggles of residents across the state, noting that leadership must be people-centred.
“But plans and records mean nothing if they do not connect to real people, the farmer who has abandoned his fields due to insecurity, the mother who cannot access timely healthcare, the unemployed graduate, the struggling widow, and the elderly left without support. These are the people I seek to serve,” Ashiru stated.
He emphasised that security would be a top priority of his administration, expressing concern over increasing attacks in rural communities.
“For generations, Kwara has been known as the State of Harmony, but that harmony is under threat. Armed groups are invading rural communities, burning farms, displacing families, and disrupting livelihoods. Security is not just a policy pillar; it is the foundation for everything else,” he further remarked.
On economic development, Ashiru highlighted the state’s strategic position and existing industrial investments as a basis for growth.
“Kwara serves as a bridge between Nigeria’s agricultural north and commercial south, yet we continue to export raw commodities without value addition.

Police arrest suspected murderer, recover stolen motorcycle in Osun
The Osun State Police Command has arrested Adebayo Isiaka Akanbi, a suspected murderer and armed robber.
A stolen motorcycle was recovered from the suspect.
A statement released by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Friday said the suspect was apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
The statement disclosed that the arrest was linked to the murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Tiramiyu Afeez, whose body was discovered earlier in February along the Ojo-Ara-Ejigbo road.
According to the statement, “The case was initially reported at ‘A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026, after the deceased left home on February 21 for his routine commercial motorcycle operations but failed to return.
“Efforts made to trace his whereabouts proved abortive until information was received that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified corpse lying in a pool of blood.”
The police said the corpse was later identified by family members as that of Afeez, with preliminary findings indicating that his throat had been slit with a knife.
Following the development, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo for detailed investigation.
The statement disclosed that “through intelligence gathering and technological analysis, detectives tracked and arrested the suspect on April 18, 2026, and recovered the deceased’s Bajaj motorcycle along with two ignition keys”.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having contacted the deceased by phone and lured him to the Ara-Ejigbo axis, where he attacked and killed him before making away with the motorcycle.”
The police revealed that the suspect admitted disposing of the knife used in the crime as well as the victim’s mobile phone.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, while disclosing that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation, reassured residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal activities.
He also stated that Osun would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.
