The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Lagos Chapter, George Ashiru, has dismissed comments by expelled House of Representatives member, Leke Abejide, describing the party’s April 14 national convention in Abuja as a “suya convention,” saying his opinion no longer matters, as he has been promoting the ruling party and does not support the ADC.
Abejide, who was among members expelled by the David Mark-led ADC over alleged anti-party activities, had publicly derided the convention held at an event centre in Abuja.
But Ashiru, speaking in a recent interview on News Central TV, said the lawmaker’s remarks carry no weight, given his well-documented alignment with the ruling party.
“His opinion no longer matters; he has been promoting the ruling party and that does not help the ADC,” Ashiru said.
The ADC Lagos chairman further questioned how such conduct served the interests of an opposition party, adding that the party took the right decision by expelling Abejide so he could formally align with those he had long been championing.
