Hassan Zamani, a former candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Eti-Osa Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has formally resigned from the party and moved to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a political development that is already drawing attention across Lagos politics.

According to a report published by The Punch on Monday, May 18, 2026, Zamani made the announcement earlier in the day when he appeared at a political gathering held in Abuja, where he also declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency.

Zamani previously contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly election, where he was the party’s flagbearer for Eti-Osa Constituency II. His latest move marks a significant shift in his political alignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

At the Abuja event, which attracted a broad coalition of political supporters, Zamani was joined by grassroots mobilisers, youth groups, women’s associations, ward-level organisers, and several political allies who have worked with him over the years. The gathering was described as a show of support for his transition into the National Democratic Congress, where he is expected to pursue a new political direction.

Explaining his decision to leave the PDP, Zamani said his resignation was motivated by what he described as the urgent need to provide more purposeful leadership and to build a wider political structure capable of addressing the needs of his constituency. He maintained that his focus remains on delivering effective representation and advancing development-oriented policies for residents of Eti-Osa.

He further characterised his defection as a deliberate and strategic step aimed at repositioning the political future of Eti-Osa, stressing that the new platform would allow for more inclusive participation and stronger grassroots engagement.
