Former presidential aspirant and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has described the possible entry of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race as a development that could reshape the dynamics of the contest and intensify competition among aspirants.

Speaking during an interview with Arise News amid ongoing controversies surrounding the ADC presidential primaries, Momodu reacted to discussions around Jonathan’s eligibility and political prospects following recent legal developments. He argued that a figure of Jonathan’s political stature would naturally command attention and inject fresh energy into the race.

“A former president like Goodluck Jonathan entering the race makes the contest more exciting and competitive for everybody,” Momodu said while emphasizing that democracy thrives on open competition and broad participation.

The veteran journalist noted that Jonathan’s return to active presidential politics would demonstrate courage, considering he left office in 2015 and has spent over a decade away from frontline electoral contests. According to him, no aspirant should fear political competition.

Momodu stressed that Jonathan, as a former president, possesses a nationwide network and political structure capable of making him a formidable contender. He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political actors not to shy away from a crowded field of contestants.

The ADC chieftain maintained that his party remains open to every serious contender and suggested that healthy competition could strengthen democratic culture rather than weaken it. He added that the emergence of more influential political figures would provide Nigerians with broader options ahead of the 2027 general election.
