A report from Al-Jazeera dated Wednesday, April 29, 2026, indicates that Iran’s Minister of Justice, Amin Rahimi, has declared that all significant decisions related to war, national safety, and international discussions are under the jurisdiction of the Supreme National Security Council, which functions with the support of all government bodies.
In statements shared by the Iranian news source Tasnim, Rahimi elaborated that this council is the main authority for decision-making on defensive and diplomatic issues, with its decisions carried out only after consent from the country’s top political and religious leadership.
He emphasized that the framework aims to guarantee collaboration among all government sectors when addressing critical national matters, particularly those connected to security and foreign relations.
“On matters like war or discussions, the Supreme National Security Council makes choices based on the nation’s best interest, and these choices are enacted following approval from the Supreme Leader,” Rahimi noted, referring to Ali Khamenei.
He pointed out that this organization guarantees a cohesive strategy within the Iranian governance, particularly in areas deemed vital for national independence and strategic security.
Rahimi also mentioned that whether concerning defense or diplomatic interactions, the main aim remains the safeguarding of the rights and interests of the Iranian people.
He stated that there is a wide consensus among Iran’s ruling bodies on this principle, with all governmental branches focused on protecting national security and preserving state interests.
“The primary objective, whether in defense or talks, is to ensure the rights of the Iranian population, and all entities within the country share this perspective,” he asserted.
