Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has reflected on the outcome of the 2023 general elections in Delta State, stating that the results demonstrated the strength of the political platform he led across key contests in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Omo-Agege said the election results in Delta Central Senatorial District reflected the level of support his party enjoyed among voters at the time and underscored the competitiveness of the contest in one of the state’s most politically significant districts.
“Let me start by telling you that in the 2023 general elections, the APC that I led won two of the three Senate seats in Delta State. Of these two seats, one was in Delta Central Senatorial District, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and I both come from. My party, under my leadership, won that seat in a head-to-head contest between the governor and me. I won a total of 115,245 votes, while the governor managed to secure 100,089 votes, a margin of 15,000 votes.”
He noted that the outcome of the senatorial election provided an indication of the political landscape in Delta State during the 2023 polls and highlighted the role played by party structures and grassroots mobilisation in determining electoral success.
According to him, the figures recorded in the election showed that voters made their choices across different contests based on their preferences and assessments of the candidates seeking public office.
