According to a report by Channels Television on April 30, 2026, Monday Okpebholo has downplayed the political influence of Peter Obi as Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 general elections. The governor argued that the former Anambra State governor lacks the political strength to secure victory even within his own state.
Okpebholo made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, where he addressed current political developments and opposition dynamics. He noted that the conditions that shaped previous elections in Nigeria are evolving, suggesting that voter behavior in 2027 may differ significantly from past trends.
According to him, shifting realities across the country will influence electoral outcomes, making earlier assumptions about political dominance less reliable. He emphasized that political calculations must take into account these changing dynamics.
The governor also addressed controversy surrounding comments he made following Peter Obi’s recent visit to Edo State, which reportedly experienced some disruptions. Okpebholo clarified that his earlier remarks were not intended to incite tension but were motivated by security concerns. He maintained that ensuring Obi’s safety during the visit was his primary consideration.
On the broader national political landscape, Okpebholo expressed strong support for Bola Tinubu, describing him as the most widely accepted political figure in the country at present. He linked the increasing number of defections by governors and other political actors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to what he described as improved governance under the current administration.
He further explained that these defections are voluntary decisions made by politicians who are responding to what they perceive as effective leadership at the federal level. According to him, the trend reflects growing confidence in the administration’s direction and performance.
Reinforcing his position, Okpebholo stated, “If the president is not doing well, I don’t think all those governors will move to the APC,” adding, “Nobody told them to come. They decided to come… we have never had it this good.”
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
