BREAKING: 2027 Elections: Moro Criticises ADC’s Move Against INEC Boss

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Nigeria’s political temperature is already rising. According to Punch Nigeria, Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, has raised concerns about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) calling for the resignation of INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, saying such moves could spark unnecessary tension.

Moro emphasised that while political disagreements are part of Nigeria’s democratic process, attempting to remove the INEC chairman at this stage could introduce uncertainty into the electoral process. He pointed out that past attempts to replace election officials have often created more problems than solutions, cautioning that stability should take precedence over political theatrics.

He also questioned the widespread protests linked to the ADC’s demand, noting that the party appears to be leading the agitation even though other political stakeholders are also affected by INEC’s actions. Moro warned that such protests, if unchecked, risk escalating disputes and undermining public confidence in the electoral system.

The ADC’s call is tied to internal party disputes and concerns about INEC’s handling of conflict resolution. Moro’s perspective encourages a more measured approach, highlighting the importance of dialogue and structured engagement to ensure Nigeria heads into 2027 with credible, transparent elections.
