Repentant terrorist Ibrahim Nuhu has publicly expressed deep remorse over his past involvement in insurgent activities, appealing to Nigerians for forgiveness as part of his rehabilitation process.

Nuhu made the appeal on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during an interview on News Central TV while addressing journalists at a rehabilitation camp designed for former fighters undergoing deradicalisation and reintegration into society.

Reflecting on his past decisions and their consequences, he said: “I never imagined things would turn out this way. I deeply regret my actions and sincerely ask the public for forgiveness.” His statement underscores the emotional weight carried by many former insurgents who are now confronting the realities of their actions and seeking a path toward redemption.

The former fighter admitted that he was drawn into extremism under circumstances he now describes as misguided and influenced by false promises. According to him, the experience has been a harsh lesson, revealing the destruction caused not only to victims but also to those who participated in the violence.

Nuhu also acknowledged the role of the rehabilitation programme in helping him reassess his beliefs and actions. He noted that the initiative has provided psychological support, education, and a clearer understanding of peaceful coexistence, which he says has been critical to his transformation.
