According to a report by the Punch on Friday, May 1, 2026, political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State gained momentum after a retired civil servant, Hajia Musiliat Yetunde, declared her intention to contest for the state’s top office on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking in Ilorin, Yetunde said her decision to join the race was motivated by a desire to sustain and expand the developmental initiatives introduced by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. She described herself as a compassionate leader committed to inclusive governance and people-oriented policies.

She praised the current administration for what she called significant progress across major sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth development, and women’s inclusion in governance. According to her, these achievements have improved the state’s reputation and laid a strong foundation for future growth.

Outlining her agenda, Yetunde said her administration would prioritise education, healthcare, agriculture, security, energy, water supply, and empowerment programmes for youths and women. She pledged to improve access to quality healthcare through broader insurance coverage while also investing in infrastructure projects across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The APC aspirant further stressed the importance of agriculture and alternative energy in driving economic development, noting that increased investment in farming and solar energy projects would improve food production, industrial growth, and living conditions for residents.

Expressing confidence in her ambition, Yetunde appealed for support from party members and the electorate, especially women, whom she encouraged to participate actively in the political process.

She stated: “I have what it takes to fly the party’s flag at the forthcoming elections as a woman successor to the governor”

Her declaration adds to the growing number of female aspirants seeking the governorship seat in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections, reflecting increasing participation of women in the state’s political landscape.
