Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development was disclosed during plenary after the Speaker of the House read a letter notifying lawmakers of Chinda’s decision to leave the PDP. According to the letter, dated April 23, 2026, the Rivers State lawmaker formally informed the House of his move to the ruling party.
Following the announcement, Chinda also relinquished his position as Minority Leader, creating a vacancy in one of the principal opposition offices in the House of Representatives.
Chinda represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in Rivers State and has recently been at the centre of political discussions following his emergence as a governorship candidate in Rivers State. His defection is expected to generate fresh debate about the political landscape in the state and within the National Assembly.
