Political analyst Maoboye Nangi has criticised Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following the governor’s withdrawal from the Rivers governorship race amid reports of a peace agreement with former governor Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Nangi said the governor had not been honest with many of his supporters about the political agreements he entered into during the crisis between him and Wike.

According to Nangi, several agreements were reached behind closed doors, but the details were never fully disclosed to the Rivers people. He claimed the current political developments were part of those earlier arrangements and insisted he was not surprised that Fubara eventually stepped down from the race.

Nangi also alleged that the governor had earlier agreed not to contest again and accused him of misleading supporters by acting as though he would remain in the race.

The analyst stated that he personally stopped supporting Fubara after learning about the alleged agreements. He added that many supporters were disappointed because they believed the governor was fighting for the interests of the people.

He further argued that Rivers residents should move on from the political crisis and focus on the state’s future following Fubara’s withdrawal from the contest.

In his words, “The governor has never been very truthful to people in the state, those of us who are his ardent supporters, the governor deceived a lot of us.”
