BREAKING: 2027: ADC Will Give Slots Only to Candidates Under 55
According to a report by PM News Nigeria on Friday, April 10, 2026, a factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, has announced a major internal policy shift that would bar party members above the age of 55 from contesting elective positions under his leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bala disclosed the decision during an interview with BBC Hausa, explaining that the move is part of a broader agenda aimed at promoting generational change, expanding youth participation, and reshaping the political direction of the party.
According to him, the policy is intended to reposition the ADC as a platform for younger Nigerians who he believes should take more active roles in governance and decision-making processes.
“The African Democratic Congress is a party that belongs to all Nigerians,” Bala said. “What we are doing now is to ensure the party moves forward properly. We have decided that we will give the youths a real chance. The time has come for young people to take the lead in politics.”
He further stated that under the proposed guideline, anyone above the age of 55 would be ineligible to contest for elective office on the party’s platform.
“If you are over 55 years old, you are not going to contest for positions in the ADC under our leadership,” he said. “We want to bring in fresh blood, new ideas, and energy from the youth. Nigeria’s future depends on the young generation.”
Bala argued that Nigeria’s longstanding governance challenges require a shift away from what he described as outdated leadership patterns, insisting that younger politicians are better positioned to drive innovation and reform.
He added that the party’s strategy is focused on opening political space for emerging leaders, saying the goal is to ensure that youths are not only participants but also frontline candidates and decision-makers.
However, this stance contrasts with another influential faction within the party led by David Mark, which is reportedly aligned with senior political figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi. That bloc continues to support experienced politicians, many of whom are above 60, arguing that seasoned leadership remains essential for political stability and governance.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
