According to a report by Daily Trust on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the reinstated Emeka Beke-led executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has officially declared all candidate nominations from the party’s recent primaries null and void.
This dramatic development follows a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, which upheld a previous High Court decision invalidating the congresses that installed Chief Tony Okocha as the state chairman.
The nullified primaries had previously produced House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda, another close associate of Minister Wike, as the party’s governorship candidate. Several other Wike loyalists who secured flagbearer spots for the 2027 National and State Assembly elections are also affected by this decision.
In a formal statement released on Monday, the spokesperson for the Beke-led faction, Darlington Nwauju, stated: “All nominations, representations, communications, documentations including decisions reached on behalf of the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress between December 20, 2024, to Friday, May 29, 2026, with the seal of the illegal executives, is illegal, null, void and of no effect.”
Nwauju accused the former Okocha-led executive of operating an exclusive club that unfairly disqualified founding party members and stakeholders. He further noted that the faction has appealed to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to expunge all records of the invalidated primaries, citing the need to prevent a repeat of past electoral losses caused by invalid internal processes.
Additionally, the Beke faction has formally requested that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) withdraw the certificates of return issued to local government officials who emerged under the Okocha faction during the August 2025 elections, insisting that the mandates be transferred to the candidates originally submitted by the legally recognized executive.
