BREAKING: Dublin Airport Mocks Declan Rice After Arsenal’s Champions League Final Defeat

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice became the subject of an online joke from Dublin Airport following the Gunners’ heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.

Mikel Arteta’s side saw their hopes of completing a historic Premier League and Champions League double come to an end after PSG emerged victorious on penalties following a closely contested encounter in Budapest.

Although Rice successfully converted his penalty during the shootout, Arsenal ultimately fell short after Gabriel Magalhaes missed the decisive spot-kick, allowing the French champions to retain the trophy.

Shortly after the match, Dublin Airport’s social media account posted a humorous message aimed at Rice. The post referenced England’s well-documented struggles in penalty shootouts at major international tournaments, joking about the midfielder’s involvement despite the fact that he had scored his own penalty.

The comment quickly attracted attention online, with many football fans reacting to the playful jab. The joke was linked to England’s history of shootout disappointments, including defeats in major tournaments such as the UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup.

The final itself was packed with drama. Arsenal took the lead through Kai Havertz before PSG levelled through Ousmane Dembele from the penalty spot after a foul on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Gunners also felt they should have been awarded a penalty during extra time when Noni Madueke went down under a challenge from Nuno Mendes inside the penalty area. However, referee Daniel Siebert waved play on, and VAR did not overturn the decision.

The incident sparked protests from Arsenal players and coaching staff, with both Rice and manager Mikel Arteta receiving yellow cards during the tense contest.

Despite their disappointment, Arsenal can still look back on a successful season after ending their long wait for a Premier League title. However, the Champions League final defeat will remain a painful moment for a team that came within touching distance of European glory.

Meanwhile, PSG celebrated another historic achievement as Luis Enrique’s side secured a second consecutive Champions League crown.
