According to a report by Leadership, on Friday April 10, 2026, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has criticized President Bola Tinubu while speaking on leadership and legacy in Nigeria.

‎George questioned whether the current administration would be remembered positively in the same way as past Nigerian leaders, especially the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

‎His comment was a direct criticism of President Tinubu’s leadership, George suggested that current governance may not leave a lasting positive legacy, he argued that great leaders are remembered long after they leave office because of the impact of their policies and their commitment to national development.

‎He compared this with what he described as weak leadership performance in the present political environment and stressed that leadership should be judged by results, not political power or position.

‎George stated that Nigerians will always remember leaders who improve education, strengthen institutions, and promote unity and noted that history is fair in its judgment, adding that only leaders who make meaningful contributions are celebrated years after their tenure.

‎According to him, the celebration of figures like Awolowo shows that true leadership is measured by long-term impact, not short-term political success, he warned that if current leaders fail to deliver good governance, they will not be remembered positively by future generations.

‎“Baba Awolowo died 39 years ago, but we are still celebrating him today. Can we do the same for Tinubu when he leave office? No,” he said.
