The ruling All Progressives Congress has lost a key federal lawmaker following the formal resignation of Senator Shehu Buba Umar over unresolved internal conflicts. The departure of the lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District marks a significant political shift in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
According to a report by Punch newspaper on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the senator officially left the ruling party to join the People’s Redemption Party. His exit occurred shortly after he withdrew from the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in protest.
A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, confirmed the political move. The lawmaker cited the lack of internal democracy, the marginalisation of loyal members, and a growing disregard for grassroots supporters as his primary reasons for leaving the ruling party.
Senator Umar said his decision to join the new platform came after widespread consultations with youths, women groups, and political stakeholders across Bauchi State. He explained that his new party aligns with his vision for a fair and inclusive political structure that protects the interests of ordinary citizens.
He stated, “The People’s Redemption Party remains a political platform built on the principles of justice, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and people-oriented leadership, with strong commitment to democratic values.”
The lawmaker maintained that true democracy requires equal opportunity and the active participation of party members in decision-making processes. He noted that the citizens of the state need leaders who pay attention to their daily struggles rather than engaging in exclusion.
“Our people deserve better governance, better opportunities, and leadership that truly listens to their concerns. Politics should be about service to humanity, justice, development, and improving the living conditions of the masses,” the senator added.
Umar urged his political allies and supporters to move with him to the People’s Redemption Party. He promised to sustain his push for job creation, improved healthcare delivery, agricultural development, and poverty reduction for the people of Bauchi State
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
