The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, following his remarks urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to reject any presidential nomination from the PDP.
In comments reported by Punch, Keyamo reportedly advised Jonathan to distance himself from any potential PDP presidential bid, stating:
“For the sake of his global image, President Goodluck Jonathan must immediately issue a strong ‘no, thank you’ statement before Nigerians begin to recall the clueless campaign that got him out of power.”
Reacting in a statement posted on the PDP’s official X account on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the party faction dismissed Keyamo’s comments and questioned his credibility to advise the former president.
According to the PDP, Keyamo’s performance in government does not place him in a position to offer political counsel to Jonathan. The party also used the opportunity to criticize the ruling administration over the country’s economic situation.
The PDP stated:
“A minister who could not effectively implement a simple cashless policy is not the best person to offer advice to a former President. Under the APC administration, Nigerians have witnessed unprecedented economic difficulties.”
The exchange adds to the growing political debate surrounding speculation about Jonathan’s possible role in future elections, as parties and political figures continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle
