In a recent video shared on Facebook on Saturday, May 2, 2026, Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, reflected on Nigeria’s recent political history while commenting on election outcomes and voter decision-making ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dokubo spoke about the 2023 presidential election and the debates that followed it, particularly discussions around the Muslim-Muslim ticket and its political implications. He argued that the outcome of the election was ultimately determined by the will of the electorate rather than campaign narratives.

According to Dokubo, “It is not about a Muslim-Muslim ticket; Nigerians voted, and BAT won that election.” He made the statement while referring to the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as BAT, after the 2023 polls.

He further explained that political campaigns often generate heated debates, but once elections are concluded, the focus should shift to respecting the outcome and evaluating leadership based on performance rather than pre-election controversies.

Dokubo also noted that Nigerian voters are increasingly driven by personal judgment, political experience, and expectations of governance rather than solely by campaign narratives or religious considerations.

The activist stressed that the emphasis in democratic processes should remain on credible elections, acceptance of results, and national unity after political contests are concluded.

He concluded by urging political actors and commentators to learn from past elections, maintain respect for democratic outcomes, and focus on building a more stable and development-oriented political environment ahead of 2027.
