SHOCKER: Natasha Faces ₦1bn Penalty In Explosive Yahaya Bello Legal Battle
A High Court sitting in Lokoja has directed the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to pay ₦1 billion in damages over a defamation case instituted by former Yahaya Bello.
The suit arose from comments allegedly made by the senator during an interview on ARISE Television.
According to the Certified True Copy of the judgment dated April 23 and obtained by NAN, the court ruled in favour of the claimant after considering the evidence presented and applying the balance of probabilities principle.
Delivering judgment in case number HCL/16/2023, Justice A. S. Ibrahim stated that the issues raised for determination were decided in favour of the claimant.
The court further issued a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant, her agents, associates, or representatives from making any additional defamatory statements about the claimant through television or radio platforms.
It also declared that the interview aired on November 4, 2022, during The Morning Show on ARISE TV was defamatory to Bello’s image and reputation.
The court held that the senator’s remarks, in which she allegedly referred to Bello as a murderer, killer, promoter of evil acts, and a source of terror to residents of Kogi State, were unjustified.
As a result, the court awarded ₦1 billion in damages in favour of the former governor.
