According to a video shared by TV Platinum, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has reacted to the recent abductions that took place in Oyo State, where armed men attacked several schools in Oriire Local Government Area and kidnapped both teachers and pupils.
The affected schools were identified as Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist School, all of which came under sudden attack by gunmen who reportedly whisked away a number of students and staff members. The incident has continued to spark concern across the country as security efforts intensify to locate the victims.
Speaking on the development, Akpabio expressed sympathy to the families of those affected, assuring them that the government is actively working toward ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals. He noted that security operations are ongoing and that authorities are carefully handling the situation to avoid further tragedy.
The Senate President also warned that extreme military action in such situations could lead to unintended consequences, stressing the difficulty of separating criminals from innocent victims during rescue missions. He suggested that caution must be applied so that lives are not lost in the process of attempting to eliminate the attackers.
In his words, Akpabio stated: “If you move in there to wipe out the terrorists, you may end up wiping out the children.”
His comments have drawn attention as discussions continue around the best approach to tackling insecurity in school environments, especially in regions affected by repeated kidnappings.
