A former senator, Babafemi Ojudu, has recalled the political crisis that rocked the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State during the administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Ojudu spoke while reflecting on events surrounding internal disagreements within the party in 2020.

He said he and some political allies became openly critical of Fayemi’s administration at the time, which he said later led to moves to push them out of the party.

Ojudu alleged that ward executives were pressured to gather signatures for their expulsion, while some party members and supporters, including former senator Tony Adeniyi, Oyetunde Ojo and Bimbo Daramola were also affected during the crisis.

The former lawmaker further claimed that the chairman of his ward, identified as Clement Afolabi, was allegedly threatened, arrested and detained for refusing to support moves aimed at expelling him from the party.

“In response, we moved to suspend the governor himself and publicized the action widely. Matters escalated dangerously until the national leadership of the party intervened and appealed to both sides to sheath their swords,” Ojudu said.

Ojudu also alleged that security agencies were later involved over claims of criminal libel, adding that their lawyers challenged the move.
