Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed that a unified coalition is the only way opposition leaders can unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming election cycle. According to a report by Channels TV on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Fayose stated that the fragmented approach of the leading opposition figures works entirely to the advantage of the incumbent administration.

Fayose addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding coalition efforts and electoral strategy. He maintained that while the opposition possesses highly popular candidates, their inability to merge into a single, cohesive political platform severely diminishes their chances of victory.

Fayose emphasized that the Nigerian political framework naturally favors broad national coalitions that maintain internal cohesion. He argued that the current division of votes across multiple platforms will fail to pose a serious threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“If Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso were in one party, I would say BAT would get a run for his money,” Fayose declared.

The former governor noted that opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso all command massive regional followings across different parts of the country. However, he warned that their independent presidential ambitions will ultimately neutralize their collective strength against the presidency.

Fayose concluded that electoral success in Nigeria relies heavily on strategic coordination rather than isolated popularity. He maintained that unless these prominent leaders sacrifice personal ambitions to build a single front, unseating President Tinubu will remain a difficult task.
