BREAKING: ‎Tinubu Not Taking Loans To Go And Eat KFC Or Eat Amala We’re Taking Loans To Develop Nigeria — Oshun

In a recent interview with The Sun on Thursday, April 16, 2026, Moshood Oshun, a member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency of Lagos State, has defended the borrowing policy of the Tinubu administration, saying that the loans being taken are strictly for national development and not for personal or wasteful spending.

‎He dismissed concerns that government borrowing is being misused, stressing that such claims are misplaced, according to him, the current administration is not taking loans for frivolous purposes, but to fund projects that support the growth of the country.

‎Oshun explained that borrowing is a normal part of running a modern economy, he said no serious business or government can grow without access to credit and external financing and added that loans are often used to support infrastructure, development programmes, and other key sectors of the economy.

‎He pointed out that many developed countries still carry large amounts of debt, according to him, even nations considered economically strong have significant borrowing levels, which shows that debt alone is not a sign of poor management, what matters, he said, is how the borrowed funds are used.

‎The lawmaker maintained that Nigeria’s case should be viewed in the same light, where borrowing is directed towards development needs rather than personal enrichment and insisted that the funds are not diverted into private pockets, but are used to finance projects that are meant to improve the country.

‎”The government of Tinubu is not taking loans to go and eat KFC or to go and eat amala. We are taking loans to develop Nigeria. There is no business that thrives without taking loans. There is no country that is not taking loans,” he said.
